Test the right thing, teach better, learn more
Abstract
This project is primarily concerned with the focus theme «Learning objectivesl, learning acitivies and performance assessments in one». Through it NADELs internal faculty will learn to develop examination questions which reflect the cognitive level defined in the learning objectives. A visible end product will be a collection of selected examination questions, ordered according to the five MAS lecture series, which can be re-used.
Success factors
• Attending this training course together created a common consciousness of problems.
• Appraising learning objectives and examination questions is a process which can be learned.
Innovative elements
Linking learning objectives and examination BEFORE teaching generates more targeted teaching and better examination questions.
Giving guest lecturers the examination questions in the preliminary meeting generates interesting discussions.
Room for improvement
The quality and level of exam questions is one thing, their correction and scoring another. In this area collegial consensus is also required.
Opinion of students
Students found the examinations appropriate and fair, but didnt know that they resulted from an Innovedum project.
Tips for lecturers
• If it is difficult to formulate a learning objective concretely because the material is so theoretical, a few application-oriented exam questions can lend clarity and perhaps even replace the learning objective.
• If there is a large amount of material, plan your teaching according to the exam questions watch out, though, that you teach the material rather than teach for the examination.
