Online preparation phase for the training course Competent organisational development of partner organisations
Abstract
The specialised course Organisationsentwicklung [Organisational Development] (OE II) is intended for employees of development organisations and will enable them to recognise, categorise and solve organisational problems at partner organisations. Participants will address cases out of their own experience during the course.
During the online preparation phase an innovative set of instruments will guide the participants of this course through a rough diagnosis of the individual cases (e.g., a partner organisation) and represents the results in a given format. This Filep project application will facilitate the development and implementation of the innovative online preparation phase by an external organisational development specialist.
The value of this blended learning application lies in the fact that students will apply the instruments and methods of organisational development directly and independently in their own workplaces before entering the classroom. Here they will be able to reflect on their work and deepen their theoretical knowledge during the course in principle a reversal of the usual procedure (theory, practice with case studies, transfer to own practice).
Success factors
o Well-designed online preparation phase with a clear assignments with the Moodle learning platform and the possibility of coaching support from the lecturers.
o The processing and the exchange of individual case studies of participants in a well-coordinated series of online preparation stage and face-to-face events.
Innovative elements
o The didactic approach centers the transfer into own practice right from the beginning, whereas in many other courses the transfer into the own working environment usually happens as last and not very relevant part.
Room for improvement
o If the theoretical knowledge of students is very different, the course should begin with a face-to-face event. This first direct contact between participants and lecturers facilitates the identification and handling of the case studies and the increased demand for coaching in the following online phase.
Opinion of students
o The participants assessed the independent elaboration of the case studies as helpful, but regretted it, to have made little use of the coaching support offered by the lecturers to seek advice on working with the case studies.
o The variety of case studies permitted during the face-to-face event a more lively exchange with increased practical relevance
Tips for lecturers
o The clear formulation of learning objectives for the online preparation phase.
o Clear deadline for sending of the preparatory work during the online preparation phase in order to timely prepare the face-to-face event
