Abstract

The E.Tutorials set up via the Filep project «Information Processing for Domain Scientists» has now been successfully deployed for 5 years. In 6 computer-based tutorials students learn to use the computer to collect and manage scientific data.

The concepts taught in the E.Tutorials have proved themselves sustainable and stable. The software used to deploy them, however, needs comprehensive updating.

Until now the E.Tutorials were accessed via CD-ROMs (even though they are also available on the web). The fact that computers in ETH computer rooms no longer have CD-ROM drives means that another solution is required. Supplying the E.Tutorials on USB memory sticks would have the advantage that both the E-Tutorials and the data created by students could be saved in one place and ported conveniently (in the computer room, at home etc.).

A programmed template for the E.Tutorials is also planned, which will simplify the creation of new ones.
