Degree programme initiative: UMNW2022 – The Environmental Science Programme in the year 2022
Abstract
Future environmental sciences experts should, during their training, aquire skills for bridging the gap between systems-oriented science and technology, economy, politics and society. If this succeeds they are predestined to act as transition agents for sustainable development in the local and global context. The goal of the initiative is to redesign the study program such that its graduates possess unique and outstanding skills to enable the transition to sustainable development and thereby contribute their profound scientific knowledge.
A strong focus of the initative is on curriculum development for interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary considering limited resources (staff, space, finance) and large numbers of students as well as on a clear differentiation from other programs that stress the sustainability context.
A Delphi process involving external experts and roundtable discussions with members of the department will lead to the future qualifications profile. This will subsequently be implemented in the revised study program. The first MSc graduates with the new profile are expected for 2022.
