Degree programme initiative: new electronic-multimedia evaluation-testing systems nemesis
Abstract
From Autumn Semester2011 to Spring Semester 2013 D-MATH wants to deploy and establish computer-aided tools to extend and support its exercises, to make these sustainably more effective and efficient and improve the already high quality of training in mathematics at ETHZ. The goals are to:
• develop a suitable combination of traditional paper and digitally interactive exercises and evaluate the learning effectiveness of these methods;
• revise, extend and make more flexible the existing collection of exercise tasks in basic subjects;
• based on the preliminary work develop, test and deploy a stable, user-friendly, easy-to-maintain, transferable IT solution;
• integrate these developments further into the existing D-MATH IT structure;
• establish the LEMUREN project
• adjust the training of Junior Assistants to the new requirements.
Success factors
• Flexible and efficient deployment possibilities for the new tools
• Acceptance by students and faculty
• High technical quality
Innovative elements
Deploying, managing and exploiting the evaluation potential of multiple-choice questions in the context of large student numbers in this way is new.
Opinion of students
The new exercise model has been mostly welcomed by students. In particular, they like the individual feedback on their performance.
