Computer-aided programming course at D-BAUG
Abstract
In the course ‹Computer-aided programming course for non-informatics degree programmes 6 online tutorials, so-called application guides, were developed at D-UMNW and D-AGRL were developed for the lecture ‹Application-oriented programming›. The project will run until the end of the year. 5 application guides have already been completed and have been successfully tested by several persons. One online tutorial was used in the lecture in SS03. The students were very motivated to work through this tutorial, and around 80% declared in a survey that they would welcome more of the tutorials. The persons testing the tutorials were also enthusiastic. The application guide concept has also been successfully deployed for several years by Prof. H. Hinterberger. Now a request has come from D-BAUG to deploy the online tutorials in the framework of Informatics II. Because this course is more comprehensive than ‹Application-oriented programming›, however, more material must be dealt with. In the framework of a follow-up project, 2 additional application guides will be created which specifically match the requirements of D-BAUG. The 6 existing application guides will be retained with no changes. Attention, though: D-BAUG is currently discussing whether to deploy these online tutorials and accordingly whether there will be an associated teaching contract; a firm decision is pending. This followup project is being applied for under the assumption that the corresponding teaching contract will be issued. If it is not, the application will be withdrawn. D-BAUG is expected to make its decision by the beginning of November 2004. The deadline overlap results from the fact that the project would start as early as January 2005, meaning that the new application guides could be deployed as early as the end of the Summer Semester 2005.
