Advanced Landslide Analysis Field Integration
Abstract
We propose to develop new integrative elements for the Advanced Landslide Analysis course (ALsA), which was the object of a FILEP project during the period 2004-2005. This proposal seeks to introduce new elements to the existing blended learning model, by providing the framework and learning materials for gaining the field-based experience necessary for the education of Earth Scientists and Engineers in the natural hazards domain. Associated with the introduction of the new field-based element is the development of new capability for analyzing slope stability within the ALsA Finite Element tool (ALsA FEM tool), which was developed during the initial ALsA project. In addition we propose to undertake a comprehensive evaluation of the course during the Summer semester 2007 as part of the Engineering Geology, Master in Earth Science program. The evaluation will be used to provide necessary feedback for revisions to be made to the course content and computer-based analysis tool box. The final objective is to significantly enhance the usability and didactic quality of web-based preparatory lectures, totaling sixteen hours that were initially produced during the initial project phase.
